Tape to Tape Controls

Last checked 2026-10-25

Tape to Tape controls are arcade-simple in marketing and surprisingly easy to misconfigure in practice — especially when poke check never appears on the list. This page summarizes what we could verify without an official public keyboard/mouse table (that sheet remains a gap).

Controllers first

Press materials and Steam categories emphasize full controller support with gamepad recommended. Xbox and DualSense-style pads show up in store metadata. If you can choose, learn on a pad before memorizing keyboard chords.

Core verbs (device-agnostic)

Regardless of bind labels, you need fluency in:

  • Skating / aiming with the movement stick or WASD-equivalent
  • Pass
  • Shoot (wrist vs heavier release — see How to Score)
  • Body check as a dedicated input
  • Special abilities when your loadout grants them
  • Goalie controls when you take the crease (details vary — confirm in-game)

Community checking docs list body check on B for typical pad layouts. Always open Settings → Controls after a patch or Squad swap.

Poke check is usually not a listed bind

Default poke is stick overlap with the opponent's stick (see How to Poke Check). That is the #1 controls FAQ. Some Squads (Modern called out in community 1.0 notes) may switch to manual poke — exact buttons Unverified here.

What 1.0 changed

Community control write-ups state that 1.0 adjusted movement / handling. Treat pre-1.0 screenshots and EA-era tip videos as historical. Relearn timings in Practice for ten minutes after updating.

Local co-op control hygiene

  • Connect pads before launching when possible.
  • Verify P1/P2 assignment on the OS level (especially on consoles).
  • If Remote Play Together guests feel floaty, that is networking — not necessarily your sensitivity.

Missing official chart (known gap)

We did not capture a complete official keyboard map HTML or press PDF table in the 关卡3 pass. Until someone screenshots Settings on PC/console:

  1. Use the in-game control screen as source of truth.
  2. Distrust third-party blogs that paste binds without a date.
  3. Prefer pad glyphs when watching YouTube tips without captions.

Sensitivity and camera habits

Arcade titles tempt max sensitivity. Start near defaults for a full Practice period before tuning. If one-timers sail wide, your aim stick may be overshooting — lower slightly, then revisit How to Score.

For couch co-op, agree on who may pause to open the control screen mid-game. Nothing erodes a session like four people guessing face buttons.

FAQ

Keyboard or pad?

Pad recommended by official positioning; keyboard works but expect more trial-and-error.

Where is poke on the list?

Often nowhere — it is positional. Read the poke guide.
